Easy Kid Crafts

Parents are often reluctant to do crafts with their children because they fear it will be too difficult. The truth is that there are a lot of easy kid crafts that are inexpensive.

Easy Kid Crafts

Kid crafts is a broad term which encompasses anything artistic that a child can create. Crafts for kids can be as simple as coloring or using watercolors. Children really enjoy cutting and pasting. Next time you get photos developed, get doubles and give one set to your children. Kids love to see pictures of themselves. They can use these pictures to make scrapbooks. There are many scrapbooking kits geared towards children on the market, however, you can even use an old notebook and some construction paper to start. As a child develops an interest in a particular craft project, you can always spend a little money to get more quality supplies or lessons. Another way to use photographs is to make custom photo frames. You can find unpainted, inexpensive wooden frames at the craft store. Kids can decorate these with paper, paint, rocks, seashells, marbles, or anything else they can think of. These personalized picture frames make a great gift for relatives.

Another fun kids craft is a marble speedway. Collect old toilet paper and paper towel rolls. Cut some of the tubes in half and leave some whole. Using the paper towel tubes as supports, tape the tubes end to end, creating a racetrack that slopes downward. To hold races with your marbles, you will want to construct two rows of tracks. This is a great project for kids on a rainy day, as they can continue to increase the side of the track and test out different variations.

You might not consider it a craft, however, baking and decorating baked goods is a fun, tasty craft. There are many inexpensive gingerbread house kits available that come with all the pieces you need, as well as a tray to help you assemble the house. Bake a sheet cake and frost with vanilla icing. Give the children sprinkles, tubes of icing and plastic butter knives and let them decorate the cake as they see fit. This also works well with a tray of sugar cookies. Children enjoy decorating cookies or painting eggs at holiday time, and will be thrilled at the chance to do it off-season. (Just be prepared to explain why Santa or the Easter Bunny is not visiting for the second time this year!)

Simple sewing projects are great for kids because they set them up to enhance their ability to become proficient in sewing as they age. Cross-stitch kits are inexpensive and easy for children as young as six or seven to complete with parental guidance. Latch hook kits are also a project that young children will enjoy, especially if their finished project is displayed in the home.
